What Can You Rent For $1,500 In NYC?

So if you have about $1,500 to spend, what kind of place can you rent in New York? That's the budget this week NY1's Jill Urban is using as she continues to look at how far your money can go in today's real estate market.

The first place we found is a studio in a townhouse on Manhattan Avenue in Morningside Heights Harlem, steps from Columbia University.

"It's a beautifully-renovated studio in a townhouse," says real estate agent Michael Coker of Halstead Properties. "It has parquet floors, brass fixtures, a washer and dryer combo unit inside the apartment, and beautiful picture windows."

The apartment is about 400 square feet and includes a ceiling fan and crown moldings. It's priced at $1,400 per month plus gas and electric. There is no broker's fee, but there is an application fee of $30. The property is available for a one or two-year lease.

For a little more space, we found a one bedroom in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn

"It's a great space," says real estate agent Joy Cox of Urban Sanctuary. "It's a unique space because it has a 450 square foot living space upstairs, with a one bedroom, living room and kitchen. But there is an additional 200 square feet in the basement. It's private space. You can use it as a home office, a studio space or even additional storage space."

The apartment has exposed brick, cherry wood floors and a dishwasher. The rent is $1,495 plus gas and electric. There's a one-month brokers fee and a $55 application fee to apply. It's available for a one-year lease.

In the same price point, we also found a large one bedroom in Astoria with all new fixtures.

"This is a great one bedroom. It's approx 700 square feet," says Citi Habitats' Constantine Hrisikos. "The floors are Brazilian cherry wood, there are granite counter tops in the kitchen, a marble bathroom and there is also parking available for addition $150 per month."

There is also a balcony and the building has a roof deck.

It's listed at $1500 per month plus electric. There is also a broker's fee, but no fees to apply. The property is available for a one-year lease.
