Brooklyn, NY (WABC) -- The sky was the limit during the construction boom in Brooklyn with buildings going up and appearing all over the skyline .
Dubbed the Brooklyner, a soaring 54 story 490 unit apartment tower open for leasing this month, is debuting around the same time several other high rises are set to be completed.
A building boom in the borough launched 2,780 rentals and 1,902 condos in Brooklyn since 2006.
That's almost 5,000 new units hitting the market at the same time the recession caused demand to drop off sharply.
Joy Cox, a broker with Urban Sanctuary, estimates it will take a while to fill so much inventory.
She says with developers anxious to offload, now is the time to get in.

The Bridgeview Towers opened last year in the hip Williamsburg neighborhood, and offers sweeping views.
